With the development of science and technology, people's demand for security is increasing, especially in homes and offices. Access control systems are an essential part of security prevention and have been widely emphasized and adopted. As a new type of lock, smart locks have garnered significant attention due to their convenience, safety, speed, and other advantages. However, many people are unclear about the connection and differences between smart locks and smart access controls. We will explore these aspects below.

1.Connection

A smart door lock is an electronic device that utilizes IC/ID card, fingerprint, face, and other identification technologies to unlock doors. Its core technology is biometrics. An access control system, on the other hand, is a complete, multi-level access control system that includes components such as access control devices, card readers, and access control attendance management software.

Functionally, smart locks are indeed part of electronic access control systems. Both involve controlling door openings and closings, but smart door locks focus more on the application of biometric technology. Additionally, from a compositional viewpoint, the smart lock also belongs to one of the front-end devices of the access control system.

2.Differences

Although smart locks are part of electronic access control systems, there are some differences between them. Firstly, in terms of scope of application, electronic access control systems are suitable for large-scale access control management in offices, communities, schools, etc., while fingerprint locks are mostly used in homes, apartments, and small offices. Secondly, regarding security, smart locks are much more secure than mechanical keyed door locks due to their biometric technology. In contrast, electronic access control systems focus more on the overall security of the system, including encryption of the access controller and rights management within the software system.

In summary, although there is a certain correlation between smart locks and access control systems, there are still differences in their scope of application, security, and other aspects. When choosing equipment, we need to select the right devices based on actual needs.
